The Beginning

West Sound GreenSTEM was launched August 17th, 2010 by a gathering of teachers and other who were interested in meaningful environmental education experiences to gather at the Pacific Northwest Salmon Center in Belfair on the Hood Canal. Building off past successes in this region, teachers were introduced to GreenSTEM and participated in a "World Cafe" to gather information about what they and others already were doing. A field lunch and NatureMapping on the Wetlands followed, with the day ended by sharing tools, resources, and launching into preliminary plans.
Teachers were offered ongoing professional development throughout the year, including a Field Investigation workshop, Shadow of the Salmon workshop and a training sail with SEA (Service, Education & Adventure) aboard The Indigo.
The year culminated with the first official West Sound GreenSTEM Summit, which was modeled after previous Hood Canal Youth Summits.
